Peter Blacker, who sadly died recently, was a guiding light in the Diggle B Band.  An accomplished cornet player himself, he also encouraged and supported the newer members of the band, in particular the younger players.

He was a staunch supporter of the lower section bands, and consequently we are proud to announce, in his memory, a new prize for the 2011 contest. The Peter Blacker Memorial Prize will be awarded to the best Third or Fourth Section Saddleworth Band with the highest overall score (playing plus "Band on the March").
